Meta Conversions API: Overview

June 24, 2024

Millions of people communicate with businesses via Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp messaging every day, making social media a huge opportunity for businesses to advertise their products or services. However, many businesses miss out on sending data about their audiences to Meta Business Accounts for ad optimization due to new policies on customer data.

Conversions API (CAPI) is a technology from Meta that allows you to sync conversions that happened from business messaging with your Meta account which helps you optimize your ad strategy and measure results across Meta platforms.

By integrating CAPI with Kommo, you can sync your Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp Cloud API statistics about conversions happening from business messaging to your Meta accounts. This data appears in your Facebook Events Manager, allowing you to accurately measure ad effectiveness and optimize performance.

Note: This feature is only available for Kommo users with an Advanced or Enterprise subscription plan.

In this article, you’ll learn about:

How Conversions API works

To set up the Conversions API, you just need to connect the Conversions API widget from the pipeline automation section in Kommo, and then set up the triggers for your chosen lead stages and lead sources. You will then be directed to log in or reconnect your Facebook account.

To get leads from Instagram, Facebook, or WhatsApp Cloud API, make sure that you have connected them in the pipeline. You can see them on the Lead Sources tab on the left side of the pipeline.

After that, you must:

1. Configure the trigger for CAPI

You can configure the trigger through the digital pipeline and Salesbot. For detailed instructions, read our article on How to set up Meta Conversions API.

2. Set up your ad

When customers click on your Click-to-Message ads and send direct messages or leave comments, they enter Kommo CRM as leads. To get more leads like these, move them to the pipeline stage where the CAPI trigger has been set up. This action sends conversion data to your Meta account.

3. Meta will analyze your ad performance

Once the data is sent, Meta analyzes it and provides an overview of your ad performance. You can view this overview in your Meta Business Account to make informed, data-driven decisions.

Sharing data with your Meta account

Using CAPI, you can sync data from your pipeline with your Meta account for analysis. Here’s what you’ll be sharing with Meta:

  1. Event Lead: Leads converted from your ads.
  2. Event Purchase: Purchases made by those leads.

Limitations of Conversions API

  • Improves only Click-to-Message ads.
  • Only syncs data for two events: leads converted from your ads and purchases made from those leads.
  • Available only for Advanced and Enterprise Kommo users.
